How to Choose a Sensory Swing for Your Child in Egypt
Published 20 October 2026
Sensory swings are easy to find online and hard to compare. Listings in Egypt range from imported products priced before shipping and customs to marketplace listings with no fabric size or weight rating at all. This checklist covers what actually matters when you choose one for your child — and the claims to treat with caution.
If you're new to sensory swings, start with our guide: What is a sensory swing?
1. The fabric
Most home sensory swings are made of a stretchy knit: Lycra (spandex) or a nylon-spandex blend. Look for:
- Stretch in all directions. "Four-way stretch" fabric closes evenly around a child; fabric that stretches one way only can sag or pinch.
- A stated fabric size. Width and length tell you whether your child can lie back or curl up inside it. A listing with no dimensions is a listing you can't compare.
- Washability. Children use these every day. Check the care instructions before you buy.
2. Size, age and weight — read both numbers
A good listing gives you two different weight figures, and they mean different things:
- The recommended weight is the largest child the swing is designed for.
- The tested load is how much the swing held in a load test. It is a safety margin, not a weight to use it at.
Choose by the recommended weight and your child's age, never by the tested load. As an example, the CIPPO Sensory Swing is designed for ages 4–12, recommended for children up to 40 kg, and load-tested to 80 kg.
Be wary of listings that quote only one very large figure, or whose figures don't match between the title, description and photos.
3. The hardware
The swing is one part; what holds it up is the other. Check what is included — a ceiling fixing, a swivel or connector, carabiners, an adjustable strap or chain — and whether each part carries a rating. The CPSC advises using closed hooks and checking hardware regularly for wear (CPSC Outdoor Home Playground Safety Handbook); the same habits apply indoors.
If the listing says "hardware included" but doesn't say what the hardware is, ask before you order.
4. Your ceiling
This is the question most listings skip, and the one that matters most in Egyptian homes.
- Concrete slabs are generally suitable for swing fixings, using anchors made for moving loads (fischer, 2020).
- Masonry and brick need expert advice on the right fixing.
- Timber needs a load-bearing beam.
- Plasterboard (gypsum board) and suspended ceilings are not suitable on their own.
A swing moves, so the fixing has to take the child's weight plus the swinging force. Have a qualified installer confirm the anchor before anything is hung. If you'd rather not arrange it yourself, CIPPO offers optional home installation with its swing.
5. Space around it
Plan for clear space on every side the swing can move, away from furniture, windows, radiators and walls, with a soft floor surface beneath. The CPSC notes that most home play injuries are falls, and that hard floors and thin mats don't absorb a fall (CPSC).
6. Claims to be careful with
Some listings promise that a swing is "clinically proven" or will treat autism or ADHD. There is no good evidence for that. Reviews of sensory-based approaches rate the evidence as limited, and a 2025 review found no significant benefit from linear swinging on children's behaviour during table-top tasks (AAP, 2012; Frontiers in Pediatrics, 2025).
Choose a swing for what it is — a comfortable, playful space for movement and rest — from a seller who tells you the specifications plainly.
7. Buying in Egypt: price, delivery and returns
Before you pay, check:
- The full price. Is VAT included? For imported products, are shipping and customs extra?
- Delivery. How long it takes, what it costs to your area, and whether someone will call to arrange it.
- Payment. Card, cash on delivery, or both.
- Returns. How many days you have, in what condition, and what happens if the swing arrives damaged or defective.
- Who to ask. A real phone number or chat for questions before and after you buy.
A quick checklist
- Fabric: four-way stretch, a stated size, washable.
- Age and weight: a recommended weight and a tested load, clearly separated.
- Hardware: what's included, and that it's rated.
- Ceiling: a suitable structural anchor, confirmed by an installer.
- Space: clear on all sides, with a soft floor.
- Claims: no treatment promises.
- Price: VAT, delivery and any customs included in what you'll pay.
- Returns: a clear window and a defect policy.
